What is RSS?

RSS feeds are just a special kind of web page that take the hassle out of staying up-to-date. Most of the big news websites like the BBC have RSS feeds. And we have one too which you can look at for up to date listings of our news, exhibitions and events.

Using RSS feeds

Using RSS feeds is really simple.

First you need to have some software called a news reader that checks RSS feeds and lets you read the articles in them. This doesn't have to cost you anything as there are plenty of free ones available.

Once you have the news reader you can then subscribe to any RSS feeds, including ours, that you are interested in.

Getting a news reader

There is a range of different news readers available and new versions are appearing all the time. Different news readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer.  Just type in RSS news reader to your usual search engine to find out more or you might like to try personalising your Google home page.

Using Google

One of the easiest ways is if you have a personal account with Google where you can personalise your Google homepage. Google personal accounts are free and let you set up the Google screen the way you like it. Once you have logged in to your personal Google home page click on 'Add content >>' then add our RSS feed URL - www.stokemuseums.org.uk/rss  - to the Google search box  and click on the link 'Add by URL' and our RSS feed will be added to your Google homepage.
