Tudor Day
History, KS1 and KS2
21 September

Visit Ford Green Hall for our popular Tudor Day and find out what life was like 400 years ago. Try on Tudor clothing, write with a quill pen, listen to 16th Century music and have a go a traditional dance.

Animation Week

Learn about stop-motion animation in this exciting new workshop. Create crazy characters and discover how to animate them into a short film to take back to school.

Eid Al-Adha Event

Discover the meaning of this important Islamic Festival during our special activity session. Make a model prayer mat, have your hand painted with henna and decorate a tile inspired by those in the Museum’s Islamic collection.

Steam Engine Fridays
Science, History, KS2
5 November, 3 December
Come and see massive levers, pivots and gears in action. Watch as the Boiler Man feeds coal to our hungry boiler providing the energy to drive ‘Princess’ our huge steam engine. Includes an exciting tour of Jesse Shirley’s Bone and Flint Mill in action and a related workshop.

Ancient Greek Day
History, Literacy, Art and Design KS2

Pupils will try on a chiton costume, see 2500 year old pots and make their own Greek pot to take home during this 2 hour themed event.

Moving Toys
Science, Design and Technology, KS2
October 2010

Explore our moving toys and models before comparing to the Victorian industrial machinery in our bone and flint mill. Discover how machines work by experiencing gears, levers and cams in action. Also take part in a practical workshop activity to explore the concepts further and make something to take home. £50 Coach grants may be available - contact us for details.

World War 2 in the Potteries
History, KS2
9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 19 November

A full day of locally themed World War 2 activities. Visit our iconic Spitfire at The Potteries Museum and imagine what it would have been like to be a young pilot before recording your thoughts as poems. We'll then take you on a short stroll up to the war memorial in Hanley to discuss its significance and symbolism.
After lunch visit Etruria Industrial Museum to meet our local ARP Warden character who will explain about air raids and life on the home front. Investigate genuine objects from the 1940s and make a gas mask to take home.
