Their Past Your Future

Funding from Their Past Your Future allowed a group of Young People, working towards their Duke of Edinburgh’s Silver Award, and residents at Etruria Locks to develop a public event that interested both groups.

In September 2009 both groups came to the Etruria Industrial Museum to sample wartime entertainment including singing and dancing. There were flying demonstrations by the Reginald Mitchell Flying Club, boats from the Potteries Model Boat Club and advice about growing your own fruit and vegetables from local allotment owners.

The project will continue through summer 2010 with young people meeting local residents to conduct oral history interviews and learn about life on the home front during the Second World War. These recollections will be added to the city’s oral history archive.
