The Festival

19th Feb to 4th March 2011

Stoke Your Fires has been animating Stoke-on-Trent for the past three years, but it’s changing. Stoke Your Fires the Festival of Moving Image is expanding and will be bringing an array of exciting film, animation and digital media events to the Midlands in 2011.

Events will include a four day convention with amazing international speakers, 3 major exhibitions, premieres from local new talent and established artists, a 48-hour film challenge, exciting activities for all ages and the prestigious Stoke Your Fires Awards.

The 2010 Festival Highlights

Stoke Your Fires 2010 included two main festival days 26 & 27 February, featuring lectures, seminars and networking opportunities, aimed at professionals and students. 

Speakers Included

Paul Wells, Director of The Animation Academy

Curtis Jobling, Author and Illustrator

Christian DeVita, Lead Story Board Artist on Fantastic Mr Fox

and Marc Silk, Voice Actor on Roary the Racing Car and Fifi and the Flowertots

The festival culminated in an awards ceremony giving local, national and international animators the opportunity to showcase their work.

In addition in 2010, there was a one day master class on 25 February, giving attendees the chance to develop their skills with the support of Lee Danskin, from Escape Studios, leading CG Academy.

The festival also featured a strong community element with a series of workshops, drop in activities for children, adult education workshops and subsidised animated feature films. An exhibition involving puppets, models and maquettes from award winning animation studios was also on display at the museums throughout February. Including figures from Coraline, Pingu, Fifi and the Flowertots, Roary the Racing Car and examples of the work of local students.
